tomorrow & tomorrow

WRITTEN, DIRECTED AND SHOT BY MIA SALDANHA

"Tomorrow & Tomorrow" is a short experimental film that seeks to reflect on the absurdity of life and nihilistic philosophy that pervaded the works of artists such as Luis Buñuel, Germaine Dulac and Jean Cocteau, who often played with the notion of how fragile the human mind can be, in line with Surrealistic practices.

T&T Moodboard

This short relies on the rhythm of the edit, associating to audio cues to those of the visual plane where “Visual impact is ephemeral, it’s an impact you receive which suggests a thousand thoughts”, in the style of Jean Cocteau’s Le Sang d’un Poète (Cocteau, 1930): with Sir Ian McKellen's non-diegetic interpretation of the Shakespearean monologue, juxtaposed with the images that I as a filmmaker have crafted, as well as those of archive, one could almost say that this film presents an audiovisual take on the Kuleshov Effect where the dramatic monologue takes a very cynic strand.
